Description
These charismatic primates are critically endangered and are endemic to a small reserve on the north-eastern tip of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. I have been documenting them annually since 2015. With the help of an ex-researcher, we follow the troupe charting their everyday antics. This particular individual was in his prime and was the leader of a group of over twenty strong. He always impresses me with his calm demeanour, something not usually found in macaques. But when duty calls, he springs into action and defends his territory vigorously against intruders, ensuring his troupe retains the best possible habitat for survival.
This is one of a set of three prints entitled “Primates”, where the proceeds support the conservation of this species and other primates.
