Description
I love the way our native Mountain Hares look in their winter coat against a snowy backdrop. There are very few places where you can see them in England but the Scottish Highlands are their stronghold. As the name suggests, they live on higher ground. Most of them are skittish and it is vital that they are not disturbed causing them to sprint, as this will waste valuable energy in the lean winter period. I photographed this adorable fellow as he was very calm and did not mind my company. I sat and watched him for a while before taking this portrait. His white coat was well camouflaged in the pristine white snow of the mountains.
